WALT make up a story of the seven stars of matariki
Seven Stars of Matariki
Once upon a time, there lived a girl called Mereana who had seven older cousins and a
grandpa called Korua. They lived in a place called Auckland . Her cousins helped her
with her training. It was said that Mere could turn into any type of animal. On one
sunny, beautifully bright day, Mere’s cousins heard beautiful singing and ran straight up
the hill. They were all forgetting about young ten year old Mereana’s training, except for one cousin, Mr Masters. At the top of the hill, were seven beautiful and glamorous ladies. “We cannot trust these ladies! They are Patupaiarehe, fairy women!” Mereana said. But Mereana’s six cousins didn't listen. Mr Masters pulled one of his brothers away, but it was no use, the brothers continued to get closer to investigate. Mere and Mr Masters came up with an idea which was to send the patupaiarehe to the heavens. As Mereana was taking the patupaiarehe to the whare, Mr Masters was preparing the net to trap them. After they were able to trap them, little Mere turned into a Lioness with fluttery wings and sent them into the neon, night sky. After the plan succeeded and while the patupaiarehe were shining bright above, they had a great feast of heihei.
